Premiereprops auction 25th March 2012: Thoughts and facts…..Part 2

Well here are the most interesting lots for me….The Immortals stuff which I will always consider a very underrated movie, especially with the material “cut” from it at the last minute which basically explains the plot. Here are the items sold today.

Nice to see the “Dark Knight” stuff go for $3,000 as that money originally came thru me and originally sold for $50. Makes you shake your head doesn’t it..laughs.

So many of the good items were passed over wardrobe wise, most coming from The Golden Closet and its a shame as they had rather high reserves on. The auctioneer would constantly push these items up with “hidden” bids to get them closer to be actually able to sell…the problem was people didn’t want to spend that kind of money, so we had a great deal of dead time. I think yesterday not a single car sold….that was 25 lots that destroyed the auctions momentum. I just don’t think that this is the right event for that kind of item.

Clearly moderately priced iconic props have buyers here…but when they go for 10% of the price of Profiles people assume they are getting a bargain. This is why the saber sold yesterday for nearly $5,500 and the Indy Jacket just under $5,000 but the problem is the provenance is very wishy washy.

Is it really worth PP doing these events and having a 25% Passed rate of non sales…..is it worth them selling all these $50-100 items? I don’t think so. People like me have to buy here because of what PP does best…there own items. Movie prop collectors don’t want autographs…..they don’t really want giant unshippable items…..and they certainly don’t want to have issues like yesterday with the bidding. PP has a chance to make a real place for themselves in this Prop world….they really do….but as a buyer and a self proclaimed expert….lol…..okay maybe lover of movie props will have to do they are driving business away.

If they had listed some of the massive quantity of Immortals stuff they still have….and all the older items unsold from films of yesteryear they would garner more interest….particularly if it was nearer the films release…..selling Underworld stuff years after the movie comes out is not the way to do it.

Like I said….I HAD to bid at this event or not get what I wanted. Some would call me crazy…and I really am sad I missed out on the Athena god costume that I really wanted…but Im very happy with what I did get and that will be the subject of an article to come this week.

What I wish is that I didn’t have to worry about these small issues and concentrate on the big picture. Paying a fair price for a beautiful prop from a company I respect. Do that and we all win.

Nuff said.
